Choosing An Attorney
by Andrew H. Sargent, MbA, JD
V-Law may be retained to provide legal or business services via phone consultation, e-mail, facsimile of documents, U.S. mail or even actual face to face real-world meetings to handle actual trials or court appearances. The method of delivery will depend upon the problem and will be determined jointly between V-Law and yourself.
Cost is always an issue and I have never had a client who did not want it done as quickly and cheaply as possible. Generally there are four possibile fee arrangments: Flat Fee, Hourly Rate, Monthly Retainer and Contingency Fee. E-mail us with your problem, your name and your phone number and we then can discuss what is the best program for your situation.
There is no charge for an initial e-mail consultation.
Financial transactions are not done over the net.
Initial half hour consultation in office - $40.00
Flat Fee
V-Law may be retained on a flat-fee basis for specific services such as drafting or reviewing a contract; working on a business plan; preparing a will; doing a letter; etc. Please e-mail your request and we will quote you a flat-fee and tell you how
you may speak with or meet with us in person.

Hourly Rate
V-Law may accept you as a client on an hourly basis rather then a flat fee. Hourly rates for contract and/or business matters in the greater Seattle area are considerably less than the usually rates for partners in major law firms. I particularly enjoy working with start ups so if you are in that phase please contact us. Hourly rates for family law matters are competitive with Kitsap County rates and I am sensitive to financial problems during dissolution. There is no charge for an initial e-mail consultation, initial office consultation is $40 for one half hour.

Monthly Retainer
V-Law may accept you or your firm as a monthly retainer account. In this program a flat monthly fee permits unlimited phone consultations and a reduced hourly rate. This program is designed for small business and start up situations which may have an ongoing need for services. We can also design a program that covers both your legal and your business needs. Contact us for details and pricing. There is no charge for an initial consultation.

Contingency Fee
V-Law may accept your personal injury case on a contingency fee
basis which means we will receive a percent of any recovery. If there is no recovery there
is no fee. The percentage is competitive with other law offices. Personal injury cases are
not limited to automobile accidents but can also include wrongful termination, negligence
or harassment cases. There is no charge for an initial consultation.

What
do business services cost?
The cost will vary depending upon the services you want and need, who will provide
them and the scope of the project. Business services may include non-legal professionals
working with V-Law to meet your needs. Business consulting is done on an hourly, daily or
monthly basis. However, if the project is complex, such as writing a business plan or a
business opportunity analysis, then the monthly retainer may be more reasonable.
Stock options or equity participation combined with a long term relationship may also
be a possibility. There is no cost for an initial discussion of the possibilities.
